Underground aggression

So I had a change of route today and had to transit at West Ham station. I noticed that the signs on the walkways said “keep right”. That’s unlike other stations I mused. The typical rules are, keep left on the walkways and keep right on the escalators. I’m not saying the typical rules make sense though. In the UK, we drive on the left, why can’t everything be “keep left” for consistency?

Another anomaly is at Westfield in Stratford. Seems like there are no rules on the escalators. People keep left or right as they fancy. I learnt that the hard way though.

Dearest hubby pointed it out to me that at Westfield it didn’t matter where you stood on the escalators. I argued with him knowing that the British are very rules based. People frown at you when you make a mistake at those obvious and not so obvious rules. It’s not uncommon to hear a stern or angry “excuse me!” when you stand on the left on the escalators.

So we get on the escalators and I decide to test his theory. I deliberately stand on the left. Suddenly, I heard a very stern “excuse me!” behind me. I hurriedly try to move away, turning around to apologise for being so silly, only to find hubby dearest behind me laughing! It was him, he got me again! When am I going to learn?

Anyway, back to West Ham. While on the escalators going down, I heard this guy swearing and cussing at a lady on another set of escalators. This blog is too posh for the words he used, so I’m not going to repeat them here. Don’t know what she did, but he was mad! He ran down the escalators and waylaid her before she got down. She was with this guy who actually looked smaller in size than the aggressor.

I thought we were going to witness a fight, getting my phone ready to call 999. He has a few words with the lady and her guy, less than 5 seconds and next thing he is on his way still cussing and swearing.

What was that all about? Some people are just full of talk, no action! Silly boy!
